Nothing beats the excitement of a fire-truck visit! TDSA’s students were visited by one of the trucks from Dekalb County Fire and Rescue. The visiting firefighters provided a lot of amazing information and visuals. They showed off all the gear they usually use, discussed how calls come in and are screened and shared the kinds of information they find out before going to any building to fight a fire. Did you know that firefighters find out if they’re responding to a home, school, or business before even arriving. There’s also a number of safety measures that firefighters take to ensure their own safety in a rescue event including a panic button that registers lack of movement and alerts other firefighters that they may need help. Among the highlights of the trip was the gear race between two firefighters to see who can gear-up faster, and climbing aboard the firetruck to see their gear and feel it!
