In honor of Chanukah, and the snow that’s been blanketing everyone up north, the fourth grade boys did a deep dive on the structure of snowflakes. The snowflake forms in what is called a crystalline structure. Because of the way water molecules freeze, snowflakes tend to form a hexagonal shape. The boys modeled the shape of the snowflake with marshmallows, toothpicks and gummy dots forming the different molecules that make up snowflakes.
