Inside the Machine

Do you know how a computer works? How do the different computer parts work together? How does information move through a computer? The third and fifth grade enrichment students are taking apart computers to answer these questions and more. They are following power through the whole unit to see how it is carried.  The students are looking at the short term and long term memory storage that computers use for saving documents and running programs.  They're also tracing the various input methods (keyboard, mouse and external) to see where information moves through the system. Once the students learn more about how the physical components work, and what needs they have (power, cooling etc. ) they will learn to code or apply the information in other ways to their passion projects and understanding of technology.
