Have you ever heard of a Pomander? It's a tradition to make one before Yom Kippur to help those who are fasting to regain energy through the long davening. To make one you take a lemon and make small holes to add cloves. The smell is very strong! That smell permeated our first grade and second grade classrooms as the students poked holes into lemons and made their own citrus smelling Pomanders for their families for Yom Kippur. The students even had fun making interesting shapes from the cloves including smiles, hearts, and stars. I'm sure the student's parents and siblings who are fasting on Yom Kippur will really appreciate it.
