Water Wow

What is a water table? How does rain happen? These questions and others like them were flying around the STEAM classroom last week. The fourth grade are in the middle of an intensive unit about water. They learned how the water cycle worked an created a gas trap to simulate the creation of water vapor to demonstrate how rain is created. They also did experiments to better understand the concept of the water-table, or how much water is absorbed and retained by the soil. By inundating different types of soil and rock combinations they were able to see that certain soil compositions retain more water-which can then affect how high or low the water table is. They're well on their way to becoming water experts!
