Modeling Stories

Who doesn't love playing with playdough? Mrs. Bolnick's third grade students were in for a treat when she handed out playdough on the first day of school. Mrs. Bolnick asked her students to sculpt something from the playdough that represented what they did over the summer. The third graders responded with an outflowing of creativity. The sculptures reflected a range of summer experiences. Some of their summer creations included cars, airplanes and even a boogie board with waves.  A critical part of the activity was also describing what they sculpted and why, helping the students to practice speaking descriptively and relating their experiences to others. These are all critical skills in becoming a writer, as well as being super fun!
